Maša’s professional experience and activities begin while still on Zagreb School of Design, when together with several female colleagues founded a design studio Manufakturist, active from year 2012 to 2016. It was a collective start as product designers and during that time they were internationally awarded for their results. Manufakturist design projects were presented at more than 20 international exhibitions, fairs and workshops such as Croatian design exhibition 09/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15/16, BIO Ljubljana (2012), Belgrade Design Week (2012), Istanbul Design Biennial (2014), Salone Satellite (2011) and Milano Ventura Lambrate (2012), Paris Design Week, Vienna Blickfang Fair, Vienna Design Week, Quibiqe Berlin, Skopje and Sofia Design Week. Working in a design studio was an experience that enhanced Maša’s self-confidence, organisational capabilities and gave a solid base to further develop grow from, creatively and business wise. Wanting to learn more about design and architecture in practice and to seek more experience in multidisciplinary teams, Maša joined one of the best architecture studios in Croatia, 3LHD studio for architecture and urbanism, on projects that integrated design, architecture, culture and art.
Shortly after that, her interests expand into cultural management and curating, practices that she developed mainly working in the NGO sector and collaborating with civil organisations working in culture. In 2016, Maša was appointed curator of Croatian presentation at Inaugural London design biennale held in Somerset house. Croatian presentation, organised by Ministry of culture and Croatian designers association, was one of 37 countries presenting their recent design achievements that responded to the theme “Utopia by design”. Her position was developing the curation concept, selecting presenting designers, curating and producing the collective installation presented in London and Zagreb afterwards. In year 2017, Maša was elected President of Croatian designers association, a umbrella organisation gathering professional designers from all design disciplines, including product design, visual communications, interaction and web design, fashion design and more, responsible for advocating design profession, promoting design on a national level, educating designers and others interested in this field. A part from daily managing the organisation and its activities together with the administrative team, she supports international collaborative initiatives such as international design exhibition Plan D, invites and hosts international guest lecturers and jury members to CDA’s events in Zagreb, and closely collaborates with the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign and European affairs on conceiving and implementing collaborative international activities such as competitions, exhibitions and conferences. In 2019, together with Marko Golub, the Director of CDA Gallery, she was appointed curator of Croatian presentation at Prague Quadrennial of Performance design and Space and selected the presenting multimedia artist, Ivan Marušić Klif. The exhibition Sliding into Unknown was an immersive installation that presented his most recent and most known projects mainly for theatre and performance.
Most recent professional experience is running another organisation in culture (since 2018), Avanti! Centre Avant-gardes, focused on establishing a contemporary art centre in a small rural town in Croatian region Istria, Svetvinčenat. As a curator and president of the organisation her activities are diverse; from conceiving new projects to funding, managing, implementing, capacity building and collaborating with partner organisations. The organisation aims to implement an integral cultural programme with international and regional artists, including local community, developing local resources and learning from the local culture. Special attention is given to cooperation with the local community, educational institutions and other cultural and independent initiatives. In addition, Avanti! deals with organising innovative presentation and exhibition formats, publishing and in organising public lectures in Svetvinčenat and in the region of Istra, such as Forward Avanti! which aims on producing new site-specific artwork made by multimedia artists in Svetvinčenat.
